Pray For The Philippines Shirt
- Client Filipino Catholic Ministry of the Desert
- Date Nov. 2013
On November 8, 2013, Typhoon Haiyan devastated the Philippines. Typhoon Haiyan (known in the Philippines as Typhoon Yolanda) was one of the strongest tropical cyclones ever recorded and the deadliest Philippine typhoon on record, killing at least 6,300 people in that country alone.
The Filipino Catholic Ministry of the Desert wanted to help fundraise for the typhoon victims by selling specially designed shirts that support the cause. They requested a shirt design with the words “Pray For The Philippines” on the front and “Salamat Po” (“Thank You” in Tagalog) on the back and the colors of the Philippines flag.
Once the final design was approved, the client requested an alternative design to be used for a tennis event called Hit To Help to be held at Shadow Mountain Tennis Club in Palm Desert, CA on December 8, 2013—exactly one month after Typhoon Haiyan. They requested a design that was exactly the same as the first shirt, except it said “Play For The Philippines” on the front and “Hit To Help” on the back.
